Cedric the Entertainer first got his start as a comedic entertainer on It's Showtime at the Apollo in 1992. He subsequently appeared on other standup comedy shows, such as HBO's Def Comedy Jam and BET's ComicView.
After four years of standup comedy, Cedric crossed over to acting and starred in the WB sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show, from 1996 to 2002. His acting career flourished as he branched into films, such as Ice Age, the Madagascar films, the Barbershop films, The Johnson Family Vacation, Street Kings, Be Cool, and many more.
Eventually, he went on the Kings of Comedy national standup tour, alongside Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, and D.L. Hughley. In 2000, Spike Lee made a movie out of this tour called The Original Kings of Comedy.
In 2006, he hosted the HBO special, Cedric the Entertainer: Taking You Higher, which received wide critical acclaim.
Cedric made his directorial debut in 2010 with Dance Fu, starring Kel Mitchell of Nickelodeon's All That and Kenan and Kel, and the film went straight to DVD. Cedric is currently starring on TV Land sitcom The Soul Man, where he plays an R&B star-turned-reverend, alongside Niecy Nash and Wesley Jonathan.
