Bruno Mars (a.k.a. Peter Gene Hernandez) was born in Hawaii in 1985. From a young age, his parents exposed him to a wide variety of music. Some of his inspirations include Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, and Elvis. He is most known for incorporating several genres into his music simultaneously.
Initially, Mars was a behind-the-scenes record producer and songwriter, working with artists like Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, and Flo Rida. His role as a singer in B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" sparked his solo career.
In 2010, Bruno Mars released his first album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, featuring the hits "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade." Critics applauded Mars for his wildly contagious dance rhythms. He then won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance after receiving a total of six nominations.
On Mars' subsequent album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), he experiments further by combining rock, hip-hop, soul, and R&B. The record debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and features the smash singles "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man." Bruno Mars is one of today’s most generation-defining pop artists.
