Bruno Mars Bio

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars (a.k.a. Peter Gene Hernandez) was born in Hawaii in 1985. From a young age, his parents exposed him to a wide variety of music. Some of his inspirations include Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, and Elvis. He is most known for incorporating several genres into his music simultaneously.

Initially, Mars was a behind-the-scenes record producer and songwriter, working with artists like Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, and Flo Rida. His role as a singer in B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" sparked his solo career.

In 2010, Bruno Mars released his first album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, featuring the hits "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade." Critics applauded Mars for his wildly contagious dance rhythms. He then won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance after receiving a total of six nominations.

On Mars' subsequent album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), he experiments further by combining rock, hip-hop, soul, and R&B. The record debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and features the smash singles "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man." Bruno Mars is one of today’s most generation-defining pop artists.

Bruno Mars is definitely an interesting artist -- especially by today's standards. His debut album, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans", proved to stand out with flare from all the other Billboard musicians and did not take long at all to appeal to the generation's need for a man with talent and lyrics that could melt your heart. His music brought back memories of the rockabilly age where the blues met rock n' roll while adding on modern pop and R&B. After seeing him live in concert for , there is definitely good reason why he sets himself apart. The easiest being, he actually can sing. As a performer, he still has much to learn in interacting and really winning over the crowd and setting the audience ablaze. This did not hinder the atmosphere though, and the show went on to an encore with girls crying and boyfriends taking a note or two. His second album recently released, "Unorthodox Jukebox", really ups his newfound musical appreciation, taking it to the next level with vocals and instruments by honing his style reminiscent of Michael Jackson and a blues/disco era. Bruno Mars's music continues to grow at a rapid rate while his fans backing him up. Although he is competing in a league all his own, it will be exciting to see what else the singer has in store as far as concerts come.

A mix of old and new. Original but not really. That's the best I can describe this man. His first album was a breath of fresh air but from the few songs that I have listened to on his second album the songs sound somewhat of a rehash or not as good. Keep in mind that I may update this review once I hear more music but for now I remember fond days of singing grenade with my coworker. There my secret is out. Some of my favorite songs from Bruno: “Grenade”, “Just the way you Are”, “It will Rain”.
