Bon Iver has made genre-bending folk music since 2007. Headed by Justin Vernon, the band includes some of the best indie musicians including Sean Carey, Michael Noyce, and Matthew McCaughan. Bon Iver comes from the French phrase for “good winter” and the introspective lyrics and haunting harmonies make for music that explores the depths of personal struggle.
In 2007, Justin Vernon locked himself up in a cabin in Wisconsin. Three months later, the self-produced debut album For Emma, Forever Ago was born, launching Bon Iver into the national spotlight. At first, only 500 hard copies of the album were made. But soon enough, blog buzz turned For Emma into one of the most successful self-produced projects of all time. Stereogum put the debut at number 11 of its “Best Album of the ‘00s” list and Pitchfork placed it 29th in its “The Top 200 Albums of 2000s” list.
At the 2012 Grammy Awards, Bon Iver won Best New Artist and managed to beat out indie legends like Radiohead and Death Cab for Cutie for Best Alternative Album. Tickets to Bon Iver live in concert sell out fast and offer an intimate chance to hear Vernon soulfully croon in front of a crowd of diehard fans loyally singing along to every song.
