dpmilner1 Sep 19, 2012 I saw Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears at the Echoplex in LA last November and was pretty impressed. They have an interesting mix of rock, blues, and soul…highlighted by their horn section and Joe Lewis’ voice which sounds a like a cross between James Brown (yes, the godfather of soul), Wilson Pickett, and Boomhauer from the TV show King of the Hill (big Texas drawl). I can say that on this night the band seemed to put all of their energy into their performance and I assume they do it everywhere. The entire group was playing, singing, and dancing throughout the set and they were drenched with sweat by the end. Highlights for me were “Livin’ in the Jungle”, “Mustang Ranch”, and “Booty City”. This is a fun live band if you get the chance to see a show...the crowd was totally into them. If you haven't heard them before I suggest you pick up a copy of their latest album Scandalous and jam out.
