Born Sean Michael Anderson in Santa Monica, California, Big Sean grew up in west Detroit, where he was raised by his mother and grandmother. While still attending Cass Technical High School from which he’d eventually graduate with a 3.7 GPA, Big Sean participated in weekly rap battles held by local hip-hop station WHTD and formed valuable relationships with some of the station’s staff.
In 2005, Big Sean visited WPZR’s 102.7 FM studios when Kanye West was in town for an interview. Big Sean got West to listen to him freestyle for sixteen musical bars; West left with Sean’s mixtape and eventually signed the young Detroit rapper to his GOOD Music record label.
In 2011, Big Sean released his debut studio album, Finally Famous, which received favorable critical reviews and commercial success, selling eighty-seven thousand copies in its first week. West produced the album, on which Chris Brown provides vocals for the hit single “My Last,” a number one hit on the U.S. rap songs chart.
Under the tutelage of West and other rap icons, Big Sean’s performances have become some of the hottest shows around. The young rapper continues to build on his success and will release his second album, Hall of Fame, later in 2013.
Buy your Big Sean tickets now because the rapper is no longer an up-and-comer and sells out across the globe.
