Born and raised in Brooklyn, legendary rapper Big Daddy Kane dominated the world of hip hop – from fashion to the music itself – in the late 80s and early 90s, and he is widely considered one of the most influential rappers of all time.
Big Daddy Kane is most famous for pioneering the art of fast rhyme. His debut album, Long Live the Kane (1988), featured the hit singles "Raw", "Ain't No Half-Steppin", and "I'll Take You There" and established him as one of the leading rappers of hip hop's golden age.
In 1989, he released It's a Big Daddy Thing, his most successful album, reaching number 33 on the Billboard Charts. It includes the womanizing singles "Smooth Operator" and "I Get the Job Done". Consequently, he worked on side projects, such as the single "Nuff Respect," which appeared on the soundtrack for Juice, starring Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps. In 1991, his collaboration with Quincy Jones for the song "Back on the Block" won him a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
Throughout the 90s, Kane did not see much commercial success with his albums, such as Daddy's Home (1994), but he took part in various collaborations with leading artists of the 90s, such as Tupac, MC Hammer, Madonna, and he helped Jay-Z's career in its early stages. In the 2000s, he teamed up for various projects with even more big artists, such as Jurassic 5, A Tribe Called Quest, The Game, and Busta Rhymes. Kane's collaboration album with Lifted Crew and Showtyme, The Las Supper (2013), returns to classic hip hop and R&B roots.
MTV has ranked him the #7 Greatest MC of All Time, and Rolling Stone has pointed out that Big Daddy Kane receives "consistent critical kudos." Big Daddy Kane is a living legend, never ending his quest to entertain his fans with his fast, clean, catchy rhymes.
