Biffy Clyro Bio

Biffy Clyro

Hailing from Kilmarnock, Scotland, Biffy Clyro is a powerful force in modern rock music. Fusing the pop sensibilities of alternative acts like Weezer with the large-form arena power of bands such as Nickelback, the Scottish three-piece has built itself a sound that is hard to beat and easy to love.

Originally named Skrewfish (after briefly considering the less-than-mainstream Kuntzoid Spamcocky), Biffy Clyro got its start in the late 1990s and early 2000s playing around Scotland, even opening for bands as big as the aforementioned Weezer. But it wasn’t until 2009’s Puzzle that the band began topping charts in the UK.

Biffy Clyro live shows reignite the dream of the ‘90s while shedding some of its unnecessary angst. The group’s concerts are more about bouncing, swaying, and smiling than moshing or tripping, but still manage to maintain the rebellion and energy of larger rock acts.

Full of traditional rock magic and enthusiasm, Biffy Clyro is a UK sensation with the worldwide charts in its sights.

Biffy Clyro are the best pure rock band in the world today. This may seem like hyperbole to the uninitiated, but I honestly believe it to be true. The Scottish trio’s dynamic brand of rock music comprises of big, yet diverse sounds, odd time signatures, and lyrics that run the gamut from deeply personal to more abstract and tongue-in-cheek. Simply put, no one else sounds like Biffy Clyro. Puzzle and Only Revolutions are the band’s two most accessible albums, but the recently released Opposites is their magnum opus and already my favorite album of the year; it’s the rare double album that actually warrants being a double album. They are always generous about releasing b-sides, which are often as good as the songs that actually make it onto their albums. I’ve seen Biffy live three times and will be making it four at Coachella. Their live sound is raw, noisy, and highly energetic. It always amazes me that so much sound can come from so few people. If you’re looking to fill the rock music void in your life, check out “Bubbles” (featuring Josh Homme), “Many of Horror,” “Victory Over The Sun,” or "Little Soldiers" immediately!
