Best Coast

Surf’s not dead, it’s just a little weirder. Hailing from, California, Best Coast has added an alternative bent on the oft-tread genre of surf rock, transforming it into a strange, fuzzy new breed of indie rock that revitalizes this retro sound.

Comprised of Beth Consentino, Bobb Bruno, and a series of rotating drummers, Best Coast’s beginnings are a modern fairy tale. A child actress, Consentino garnered praise and major label interest from posting her music on her MySpace page. Uninterested in being a “pop princess,” she moved to New York to focus on her craft, then returned to Los Angeles to team up with Bruno.

The band has opened for such big-name alternative acts as Green Day and the Decemberists, its reverb-heavy take on surf rock entrancing crowds around the globe. A Best Coast concert is reminiscent of the genre’s origins, with fun-loving surfers mixing with laid-back indie rockers and swaying to their heart’s content.

With its albums rising on the U.S. and UK charts and new, more dynamic material on the way, Best Coast has made a significant splash in the pop music scene and promises to keep its beach party going long into the night.
