nlaureolaOct 26, 2012Zach Condon's worldly travels really come through in Beirut's music. It's full and lush and immerses you in waves of sound in combinations you've never dreamed of before, but take you someplace beautiful. I guess that's a flowery way for saying it's AMAZING. When I had to chance to see Beirut live, I of course couldn't get close enough to the stage to properly see what was going on, but I could hear every note, and being tightly surrounded by tons of other people listening to the same thing is really special. You don't need to dance to it, or even move. And even if you can't always understand the words that are being said, the sound of his voice perfectly compliments the instrumentation and makes for a truly unique sonic experience.

His latest album, The Rip Tide, is definitely the most accessible and consistently great exploring themes of leaving home, wanderlust, and the things that pull us back home with Santa Fe being my favorite. The previous albums have some gems as well, Elephant Gun, Nantes, and Postcards from Italy being a few favorites.
