Born as Riley B. King in 1925, B.B. King has become one of the most iconic blues artists in the world. Hailing from a cotton plantation near Berclari, Mississippi, B.B. King started playing guitar at 12 years old. He debuted with the single “Miss Martha King” in 1949 on Bullet Records.
In 1970, B.B. King gained international attention with “The Thrill Is Gone”. The song earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
In honor of his long and bright career, B.B. King was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. The “King of Blues” was ranked #17 on Gibson’s Top 50 Guitarists of All Time list and #6 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
