Asher Roth Bio

Asher Roth

An American rapper from Morrisville, Pennsylvania, Asher Roth is only the second white rapper to be featured on Cannon’s Gansta Grillz series. Roth has noted that his biggest influences growing up were Jay-Z -- especially the rapper’s Hard Knock Life album -- and Eminem.

While still an Elementary Education major at West Chester University, Roth was signed by Atlanta promoter/manager Scooter Braun one week after Roth sent some of his songs to Braun on MySpace. After signing with Braun, Roth moved to Atlanta, where he was courted by a variety of top hip-hop labels like SRC, Def Fam, Warner Bros. Records, and Atlantic Records. Roth eventually signed with SRC/Universal Records.

Asher Roth became immensely popular in 2009 after the release of the single “I Love College,” which was embraced as a party anthem at universities across America. As a result, his ensuing album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, peaked at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200. To promote Aisle, the rapper went on tour with B.o.B and Kid Cudi, and within no time Asher Roth performances became sold-out affairs.
