Aimee Mann was born on September 8, 1960 in Bon Air, Virginia. Her enthusiasm for rock music at a young age prompted her to attend the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, however she dropped out to join a punk band called, The Young Snakes. In 1985, the band debuted with the album, Voices Carry, which went on to win the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist.
After The Young Snakes release of their third album, Everything’s Different Now, Mann left the group to pursue a solo career. Her first album, Whatever, did not see the success The Young Snakes encountered with their first debut and her later albums were much more successful, such as @#%&*! Smilers, which hit Billboard 200 at number 32 and number two on Top Independent Albums chart.
