Aimee Mann is quintessential. From the 90s to today -- from the Magnolia soundtrack to guest stints on Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- her music is always far-reaching and provocative. It ranges from ballads and soft-spoken duets to grunge-driven rock and roll in the vein of her contemporary female artist Liz Phair. Don't let the easy-going style and calm demeanor fool you. Her extremely unique and always distinctive voice can pack a punch. For a good representation of the styles she can cover, I would recommend giving the soundtrack to the film Magnolia a listen. Paul Thomas Anderson's choice in music never fails.
