Oktoberfest at St. Alphonsus Description

Oktoberfest at St. Alphonsus - Beer Festival in Chicago.

Chicago isn’t lacking in Oktoberfest celebrations, but one of the coolest places to dine and drink in a hearty dose of German spirit is probably at the St. Alphonsus Church in Lakeview.

Beer in church? You betcha!

Taking place for three days at the end of September, Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus has drawn thousands of happy revelers since the first event was held back in 2000, with homemade bratwursts, lots of cold brews, and music from authentic German bands. There’s also local favorites like a Dave Matthews tribute band and even some seriously talented kids from the Chicago School of Rock.

Built in the 1800s, this beautiful church might not seem like the place to get rowdy – and it’s true that the event is largely family-friendly and attended by people from all walks of life – but that shouldn’t imply there isn’t always a divine amount of beer on hand to (over) fill anyone’s day.

That’s because activities aren’t relegated to St. Alphonsus, and visitors can explore much of pedestrian-friendly Lincoln Avenue nearby, including a pair of music stages, booths, and a glorious beer tent.

Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus admission fees are only $5 for each day. Beer and food prices at Oktoberfest Chicago vary, but are all guaranteed to go really well with that stein.
