Chicago Polar Plunge 2014 Description

Chicago Polar Plunge - Special Event in Chicago.

The Chicago Polar Plunge is an annual test of bravery held in March at North Avenue Beach in Chicago. Located in Lincoln Park, North Avenue is arguably the most popular beach in the city with its prime location and central restaurant and bar, Castaways.

Started in 2001, the Chicago Polar Plunge draws more that 2,000 participants each year that happily jump into freezing Lake Michigan for the good of the cause, or just from pure insanity. Participants dress up in costumes, often in groups, and are allowed to go as deep into the water as they dare, as long as some part of their bodies enter the lake. Prizes are awarded each year to the top three fundraisers, the best team costume, the largest team, and the best dressed individuals.

Each participant in the Chicago Polar Plunge is required to raise at least $150, which goes towards the Special Olympics and Special Olympics athletes.
