River North, Chicago –
True to its name, Nacional 27 brings to Chicago a little bit of flavor from all twenty-seven countries in Latin America, drawing a diverse crowd of trendy, fun-loving partygoers eager to follow the venue’s motto of “Eat. Drink. Dance.”
Somewhat removed from the loud and rowdy club scene of nearby Hubbard Street, this upscale restaurant fills with lively Latin music from the moment its doors open, as stylish work colleagues crowd the central bar for passion colada mojitos and well-dressed girlfriends gather in sleek banquettes to work their way through pitchers of sangria.
In the early evening, affluent families and couples drop by the adjacent round dining room to sample selections from the enticing menu, which includes everything from ceviche to roast suckling pig.
Thursday nights, meanwhile, draw adventurous college kids and daters looking to take advantage of the free salsa lessons, while Fridays and Saturdays see an overflow crowd of upbeat partners and veteran dancers shaking it to the DJ’s spicy beats until closing time.
Lively and easygoing, Nacional 27 offers a complete night of dining, drinking, and dancing with a decidedly Latin flair.
Diverse mix of young professionals, upscale couples, well-dressed girlfriends, salsa lovers and dancers, and chic party girls, mid-20s to late 30s.
DJ, free salsa classes, and dance performances.
Latin American tapas, ceviches, steaks, and seafood. Four-course party menu available for larger tables. Seasonal patio.
Small bites $5–$8, ceviches $9–$11, entrées $13–$33, four-course menu $36.95/person. Beer $5–$7, wine $8–$13/glass or $39–$150/bottle, mojitos/margaritas/specialty cocktails $7–$14, sangria pitchers $27/serves six, cocktail pitchers $55–$70/serves six, bottle service 127+.
Nice casual to dressy: nice jeans, button-downs, slacks, blouses, cocktail dresses.
Thursdays for free salsa lessons, or Fridays and Saturdays for DJs and dancing.
Y Bar (224 West Ontario Street) is an upscale lounge with excellent bottle specials and DJs Wednesdays through Saturdays. Blue Frog’s Local 22 (22 East Hubbard Street) is a popular neighborhood joint for karaoke, organic food, and beer.
