Located at the north end of the swanky Rush Street shopping district, Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse is a Gold Coast neighborhood institution that has been alienating the basic tenets of vegetarianism – and recommended portion size – since 1989.

Boasting ice-cold martinis, massive cuts of beef, and desserts that could double as road blocks, this bustling corner venue brings in a regular assortment of wealthy young couples, powerful local businessmen, athletes, and large groups of friends looking to splurge on a protein fix.

Averaging more than five-hundred meals a night, the 8,000-square-foot venue whirls with waiters swinging large cuts of meat in front of wide-eyed diners’ faces, a customary tactic to showcase the restaurant’s varied selection.

An elegant wooden bar in the front room welcomes local financial professionals looking to unwind with one of the over hundred and fifty wines, while the spacious dining area – a veritable sea of white-clothed tables – fills up quickly with foreign dignitaries being dignified and lively families celebrating birthdays.

Despite the Lamborghinis parked outside and the upscale shopping down the street, the patrons that flood Gibson’s each night range from older men in Armani suits to younger tourists in simple blue jeans.

For a nice lunch break while shopping in the area, or to celebrate a milestone over an extravagant dinner, Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse is the perfect option that never lets a carnivore leave hungry.

What a night

The League's favorite bar is one of mine too! It presents a very social environment and has great food. Make sure you stay for dessert! The pecan pie was one of the best pieces of pie I have ever had! It's a must go
Always satisfying

Both the literal and figurative apex of the Viagra Triangle, Gibson's provides a comprehensive Gold Coast experience in just one meal. Its location, which is central to the area's many hotels and office buildings, attracts tourists and neighborhood professionals in equal quantities. For a restaurant bar, Gibson's is notably social, with close-set tables that facilitate easy conversations between visitors and locals. After five, thirsty businessmen and shoppers enter in droves, and there's simply no room to be a stranger. The traditional, yet modern ambience establishes a convenient and versatile meal setting. It's a great place to meet a good friend or a grandparent, and with its flexible dress code, no one will feel self-conscious about his or her outfit. Servings of top-shelf alcohol are generous and well-balanced. Someone who arrives famished will still have leftovers for days -- and probably a few new phone numbers, too.
Go for the dessert...

Yes, Gibson's is a steakhouse. And yes, the steak is incredible. (I mean, seriously! They actually bring around a plate of raw steak cuts and explain what each one is and how they're different! Unbelievable!) So don't get me wrong, that's a great reason to go too. But the dessert. Oh. Man. It's just incredible. By some strange fluke I ended up with a free piece of pecan pie when I visited, and despite the fact that I was stuffed to the brim with some top-notch red meat and a side of mashed potatoes, I couldn't say no. The reason I couldn't say no is because the slice of pie was about 6 inches wide, 4 inches tall, and still steaming slightly from the oven. It was the most delectable pie I've ever eaten. If you're reading this, you'll probably go here anyway, and you'll probably eat the steak. But I am telling you to save room for dessert. It is totally worth it.
This place was straight out of a movie! And Vegetarian friendly too!

This was my first time ever in the city. I felt like I was in NYC. I went to the bar by myself while I waited for my guest. I was greeted by the old-school bartenders that looked straight out of a movie. They seemed to know everyone. The guys at the bar looked like they were bankers or well-to do businessmen. I played on my phone and pretended to watch the 2 big screen TVs when I was really people watching. I had a house chardonnay which was a huge pour for $8.50. I felt glamourous here. Gorgeous women in dresses with great legs were everywhere. I talked to a tourist at the bar who was in town for the night, who told me I was "the prettiest girl in Chicago". :) The decor was super classy, but I felt comfortable in jeans and a nice top. I met one of the partners, John, and the asst. GM Christopher, along with one of the owners Steve. They made me a nice vegetarian dish with a TON of great vegetables, then the owner sent over a HUGE piece of Pecan Pie with ice cream, on the house. This is a great place to experience in Chicago!
Great for Afternoon Drinks or Steak Dinner in the golden triangle

Granted gibsons is an institution, but for me it's a great launching point for the evening or afternoon into the evening. Food is old school steakhouse good. However I tend to start the evening with a cocktail there and then watch the crowds fill the gold coast and determine where to head to any of the tens of bars right in the golden triangle there. Have also not made it out of Gibsons and spent the whole evening there.
