As the third largest city in America, Chicago is home to a booming performing arts scene with some of the best theater, opera, ballet, symphony orchestra, musicals, and burlesque in the country.
If you’re looking for performing arts in Chicago, you don’t need to go much further than The Loop – but there are also venues and performances all over the city. Inside The Loop there are multiple theaters playing host to traveling Broadway productions but also homegrown plays, shows, and musicals. In addition to the shows, it’s also possible to see incredible opera at the Civic Opera House, home to the Lyric Opera group.
Getting away from the Windy City’s theater district, there are more great performance venues of all kind. The Apollo Theater features great musical productions while Lincoln Hall hosts everything from concerts to movies to spoken word.
For something on the sultrier side of Chicago performing arts, there are venues featuring burlesque and cabaret all over the city. Inside the Flat Iron Arts Building, Debonair Social Club features rotating theme nights combining art, music, and a very popular burlesque show.
If you’re looking to enliven your cultural repertoire or just want something with a little more class and sophistication, you can’t go wrong with the great performing arts options anywhere in the city.
