The international DJ sensation brings his Club Life Tour to the birthplace of house music at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
Tijs Michiel Verwest, known as Tiësto, is a Dutch DJ and record producer. Born in 1969 in the Netherlands, superstar Tiësto has played an integral role in the growth of electronic dance music.
In 1997, he founded the label Black Hole Recordings, which featured not only his own releases, but also tracks by artists such as Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren. No longer involved with Black Hole Recordings, Tiësto currently releases music through his self-owned record label, Musical Freedom, and Ultra Records.
After years of producing music within the Netherlands, Tiësto’s international fame began to grow after releasing his first solo album, In My Memory, in 2001. He began doing tours in the United States and various other countries, became the first DJ to hold a solo concert in a stadium, and also became the first DJ to play live on stage at the Olympic Games (2004 Summer Olympics in Athens).
Over the years, Tiësto’s style has evolved from classic trance to the newer upbeat electro house that is quickly gaining wide-scale popularity.
Tiësto has been crowned the “World’s No. 1 DJ” 3 times by DJ Magazine and his third album received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2008. During his “Club Life College Invasion Tour” in 2011, Tiësto ended the tour with a sold-out event at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, where he performed in front of 26,000 fans and is credited with playing the largest single headline DJ show in United States history.
Tiësto has collaborated with musical artists from almost every genre, including Wolfgang Gartner, Priscilla Ahn, Tegan & Sara, Nelly Furtado, Three 6 Mafia, Diplo, Kanye West, Coldplay, and Katy Perry.
Some of the biggest Tiësto tracks include “Adagio for Strings,” “Elements of Life,” “I Will Be Here,” “Escape Me,” “Maximal Crazy,” and “We Own the Night.”
