Taste of Randolph Street Description

Taste of Randolph Street - Food Festival | Street Fair | Music Festival in Chicago.

Taste of Randolph Street is an annual summer food and music festival in Chicago. During three days, more than 100,000 visitors crowd the Randolph Street Corridor, purchasing food from the West Loop’s best restaurants and browsing the artisan shops selling handcrafted jewelry, clothing, and artwork along the street.

Featuring performances from top bands in indie rock on three stages, the Taste of Randolph Street 2013 festival benefits the West Loop Community Organization, which strives to provide residents and local businesses with an opportunity to influence decisions in West Loop neighborhood development, as well as promote overall quality of life in the West Loop.

Past Taste of Randolph Street performers include My Morning Jacket, Spoon, and the John Butler Trio. There are no Taste of Randolph Street tickets, but a $10 donation is suggested for entry to the festival. Information and tickets for Taste of Randolph after-parties can be found on the festival’s website.

Chicago kicks ass in the festivals department and they don't even take names. They will, however, take a $10 suggested donation. At least that's what they were charging at the Taste of Randolph's gates. The donation is entirely "suggested" so basically the Taste of Randolph is free. Past-goers of the fest will rave and rave about the music offerings, this year Indie supergroup Divine Fits graced one of the stages. In addition to real instruments, there is also a DJ tent where you are likely to spot a few toddlers getting their freak on. Though this is mentioned as a highlight, I think it’s a drawback. Not to knock the music but The Taste of Randolph is a food festival. The food should be the star and it’s not. The food selections were few and many lacked imagination. How many tents need to be serving tacos? However, it is helpful to the less adventurous when tents serve normal fare such as pizza and sausages. Furthermore, the food is where the “free” ends. With water running at $2, wine at $6, and food much higher, it’s not a festival for this economy for sure. All that being said, any gripes I had with the festival surely faded away during my first bite into Publican Quality Meats “Porchetta”. With meat rubbed in rosemary, garlic, coriander, and red pepper all running through your mouth, It is the sort of sandwich that assures the taster a god must exist somewhere. For the porchetta alone, I left content.
