July in Chicago is a good month to be a music fan, as over 50,000 young, devoted music lovers take over Chicago’s Union Park for three days of alternative rock, rap & hip-hop, electronica, and dance music.
Normally taking place on a consecutive Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Pitchfork Music Festival became an instant hit when the first one kicked off in 2006, attracting a huge variety of bands like Guided by Voices, Neko Case, Das Racist, The National, and Spoon.
Other past performers at the Pitchfork Music Festival included Pavement, Modest Mouse, Girl Talk, Os Mutantes, Big Boi, and many more.
Roughly 50 acts usually make up the long lineup of Pitchfork Music Festival performers, so the park regularly overflows with thousands of rollicking music fans of all stripes during each of the three days.
Pitchfork Music Festival tickets are normally $45/day for general, standing-room only admission, with three-day passes also available.
Tickets routinely sell out fast for the Pitchfork Music Festival, so those who can’t get a ticket will have to make do with the live streaming of the event on YouTube – just search for Pitchfork.tv.
The party also continues after the festival, with after-parties scheduled each night at venues such as Lincoln Hall and Bottom Lounge.
