Chris Morgan Sep 8, 2012 The Hideout Block Party is consitently a great way to end the music festival season in Chicago. It is a little smaller than Pitchfork and way smaller than Lolla, but no less fun and it feels like more of a community of music lovers than some of the others. The only real downside is that it takes place in a parking lot/concrete area so it is tough have a rest in some grass like you can at some other festivals. The Hideout knows their music and brings in big names as well as up-and-comers in the indie/folk/alt-country/rock landscape. You won't be getting trance, EDM, or metal or much in the way of pop music. You will get great bands, great songwriters, and great musicians. Highlights for me in the past include Andrew Bird, Art Brut, Bloc Party, Dan Deacon, Waco Brothers, New Pornographers, Ratatat and a ton more. Ride your bike and don't try to take public transportation to get there. Wear sunscreen and drink a lot of beer to stay hydrated. Then when the sun goes down you'll be ready to party.
