Party Earth Clover Sports & Leisure Review

The Scene

Clover Sports & Leisure in River West, Chicago is an elegant sports bar with daily specials and devotion to Iowa. Catch the game in Chicago with Party Earth.

The subtle sensibilities of a speakeasy unite with modern appreciation of sport at Clover Sports & Leisure, a chill bar with a diehard dedication to University of Iowa football.

That’s not to imply other games can’t be found there, what with more than a dozen flat-screens lining both sides of the narrow room, each flickering beneath the elegant pressed-tin ceiling.

The crowd trends a bit older than at the standard college-loving watering hole, so this isn’t the place to go for a raging party scene, but the vibe is still über-casual even if many patrons are still wearing work suits.

The space is mostly furnished with dark wood high-tops and a sleek curved bar, where preppy professionals and ball-capped bros indulge in daily specials like $12 buckets and $2 whiskeys, a bunch of craft beers, and a tidy collection of classic cocktails.

Most nights find one of the owners holding court, chatting stats, and tending to the free popcorn or the pubby menu of burgers, wings, and shepherd’s pie.

If ballgames don’t entice, there’s a dartboard in back, along with a massive stack of board games and a giant-sized Jenga that gets progressively more difficult after a couple of Dean Martinis.

It’s a madhouse if the Hawkeyes or a local team is playing, but otherwise Clover Sports & Leisure is exactly as it sounds – a place to leisurely drink and watch Super Bowl XYZ…or play Jenga XXL.
