PitchFork Food & Saloon - Bar | Restaurant in Chicago.

Party Earth Review Whiskey and ribs is the name of the game at PitchFork Food & Saloon, which has nothing to do with the famous music festival but a lot to do with down-home grub and grog. The venue is certainly more polished than the average road house – two cavernous rooms with lots of hardwood and exposed brick – but daily specials make ... more

Leader Bar - Restaurant | Sports Bar in Chicago.

Party Earth Review Leader Bar is a sleek sports den that would be perfectly at home in the yuppie paradise of Lincoln Park, but instead resides on an unassuming stretch of Irving Park Road surrounded by taquerias, auto shops, and funky markets. Brunch in Avondale / Irving Park Overview

Leader Bar - Restaurant | Sports Bar in Avondale / Irving Park, Chicago

Avondale and Irving Park are quiet neighborhoods with old-school vibes, but the modern invention of brunch has infiltrated the area’s restaurants. Pubs and bistros alike offer up midday hangover helpers and plenty of opportunities to people-watch at sidewalk tables. Brunch in Avondale/Irving Park has one big advantage over neighborhoods to the east: tables may be had without hour-plus wait times.

Some historical pubs have adopted brunch as an event, and they feature some of their rest-of-the-day favorites along with the expected eggs and bacon. Abbey Pub’s environs are big enough for live music at night, and the morning after, the same clientele can roll in for food. Like the Abbey Pub, Chief O’Neill’s Pub has been around for generations, and its huge space (when not in use for a wedding) is a friendly space to start off a Sunday with some day drinking.

The new kids on the block have also joined the brunch club, knowing that everyone’s favorite meal is big business every weekend. Pitchfork’s brunch offerings have a Southern-fried twist, while Leader Bar turns on the afternoon game for those who want their French toast with a side of football. On a more refined note, bistro Bread&Wine puts the focus more on the food than the entertainment, and their Bloody Marys share the menu with original midday cocktails.
