The Institute Of Contemporary Art Museum

The Institute of Contemporary Art, located on Boston’s booming waterfront, hosts some of the city’s edgiest and most visually spectacular events. Founded in 1936 in Back Bay, the Institute of Contemporary Art relocated to its current home in 2006, where it has gained a gourmet café, a stunning 350-seat multipurpose auditorium, and a roomy patio.

Performances at the Institute of Contemporary Art’s theater include plays, dance, and music concerts, films, and interactive gallery exhibits. Past events at the Institute of Contemporary Art have included cooking demonstrations by a number of Boston’s most popular chefs, film programs such as the Ann Arbor and Ottawa International Film Festivals, and the groundbreaking puppet show Disfarmer. Other events at the Institute of Contemporary Art include “Experiments,” museum-wide themed events, and family art programs.

In the summer, the DJs on the Harbor series is a perennial hit with the alternative set. Electronic and alternative DJs spin on the Institute of Contemporary Art’s outside deck, while fun-loving guests of all ages dance it up with bottles of craft beer in hand. Street parking and a lot next to the Institute of Contemporary Art make driving a viable option, while public transportation is slightly trickier – guests can either take the T to the Red Line’s South Station and walk the extra 15 minutes to the museum, or take the Silver Line to the ICA stop.
