Winner of numerous accolades including Boston Magazine’s Best Beer Selection, Sunset Grill & Tap attracts hordes of animated students from the nearby Boston University, Berklee, and Harvard campuses, making the bar a quintessential college hangout.
Adorned with walls of beer bottles and the requisite mishmash of neon signs, mirrors, murals, and beer posters, Sunset is a low-key, after-work watering hole early in the week when drinking buddies gather downstairs to down Murphy’s Stout or Narragansett Lager, catch the Sox on TV, or slip into a booth to order the popular Fiesta Nachos from the extensive menu of southwestern fare.
The action starts to pick up on Wednesdays, when brainiacs and grad students pack in for trivia and a few selections from the sixteen-page menu of over four hundred ciders, microbrews, vintage beers, and IPAs.
Once the weekend rolls around, Sunset comes alive with frenetic energy as gaggles of rowdy music, pre-law, and liberal arts majors in college sweaters and backwards baseball caps flock in to the upstairs bar to eventually overpower the jukebox with drunken chatter and raucous chants.
Obviously an ideal hangout for college students and local young professionals, Sunset Grill & Tap is also a sure bet for any beer enthusiast looking for one of the most comprehensive beer menus in town.
Preppy and artsy business and liberal arts students from Berklee, Harvard, and BU, young professionals, business types, and post-grads, early 20s to late 30s.
Jukebox featuring Top 40, 80s, and 90s music. Stump! Trivia on Wednesday nights.
Expansive menu featuring southwestern dishes served until 1am. All-U-Can-Eat Taco brunch bar Su 11am¬–3pm. Taco and fajita lunch buffet M–F 11:30am–3pm. No shots or rocks drinks served.
Taco brunch bar $8.50+, taco and fajita lunch buffet $7.50, appetizers $6–$11, entrées $8–$20. Beer $5–$50 for 750ml of Cantillion Saint Lamvinus, beer floats $6+, wine $6–$11, cocktails $5+.
Casual: jeans, t-shirts, relaxed dresses, work attire.
Wednesdays for trivia, and Fridays and Saturdays for a rowdy college crowd.
Right next door is Big City (138 Brighton Avenue), Sunset Grill’s sister location that features fifteen championship pool tables, four foosball tables, and eighty beers on tap.
