Beacon Hill, Boston –
Patrons looking to do time in a relaxed lounge and restaurant can head to Clink, a unique venue in the lobby of the Liberty Hotel that once housed the Charles Street Jail.
Situated under a series of spotlighted guard catwalks, the intimate space features exposed brick, arched windows, and large iron chandeliers that create a surprisingly sultry atmosphere.
Consisting of two rooms divided by a brick wall and several barred windows and cell doors, the restaurant attracts a sophisticated but laid-back clientele of designers, finance types, and young professionals who gather in the jail-cell alcoves to chat over dinner and drinks, while those interested in culinary matters can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen in the larger room.
Lunch time finds the place filled with hotel guests and staff from the neighboring hospital, while evenings see an influx of after-work media professionals and off-duty doctors looking to unwind over a cocktail or two.
Later on, a more glamorous clientele shows up to chill out on the cushy wingbacks and sofas, dance to live jazz, or watch a high-energy fashion show. A separate bar in the hotel lobby provides post-prandial cocktails and extra seating when the crowds pile in on the weekends.
A classy joint in a historic big house, Clink offers a cool and exciting experience guaranteed to inspire repeat offenders.
Attractive and trendy designers, successful young professionals, doctors, and politicians from the Beacon Hill neighborhood, mid-20s to late 30s.
Events every weeknight including local jazz bands, cocktail and cooking demonstrations, Gallery Night and Wine Tasting on Tuesdays, and the Fashionably Late Fashion Show on Thursdays. Seasonal events include Movie Mondays, Yappier Hour Wednesdays, and Yoga Saturdays in the courtyard.
Menu of modern American cuisine served for brunch, lunch, dinner, and late-night, featuring cheeses, a raw bar, and seafood and meat options including seared scallops and ossobuco.
Brunch $4–$15, cheese plates/charcuterie $5–$36, raw bar $2–$39, soups and sandwiches $9–$24, entrées $19–$35, late-night snacks $6–$17. Beer $4–$9, wine $9–$17, specialty drinks $12–$15.
Dress to impress: designer labels like Jimmy Choo, BCBG, and Burberry for men and women.
Thursdays for the Fashionably Late Fashion Show and Fridays and Saturdays for the biggest crowds or to avoid the line at Alibi, the hotel’s smaller bar downstairs.
Alibi, also located in the Liberty Hotel, is the former drunk tank of the Charles Street Jail. Though on the small side, its sexy atmosphere attracts a similar yet more exclusive clientele than Clink.
