Now in its third incarnation, Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel has been bringing rock, blues, and folk legends to Providence for 30-plus years. The club’s first location, opened in 1975, established itself as an authentic venue – albeit a hair grimy – and heavyweights such as the Ramones, Bo Diddley, Iggy Pop, and Roy Orbison all took a turn on the stage.
While the venue is now bigger and (slightly) cleaner, and has state-of-the-art sound equipment, the brash vibe remains the same. With a capacity of 200, it’s not uncommon for concerts at Lupo’s to sell out – especially when acts like the White Stripes, Neon Trees, and Wilco are on the schedule, and tickets at Lupo’s are often under $30.
Concertgoers hailing from Boston can take the commuter rail from South Station, and make the trip in just under an hour; since there’s no parking lot, traveling via T might be easier than hoping for a street spot. With shows at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel seven days a week, the venue can inject fun into any night.
