As one might expect, Boston’s Financial District is a busy hub of economic activity, looming skyscrapers, and a steady stream of briefcase-carrying bankers, lawyers, and other professionals.
The Downtown area is also home to many historical sites, served by a section of the city’s famous red brick Freedom Trail, which zigzags past old cemeteries, battlegrounds, and Faneuil Hall, an indoor/outdoor marketplace consisting of Quincy Market, North Market, and South Market that was also the site of pro-independence speeches by figures like Samuel Adams.
Bursting with raucous bars and Irish pubs, Downtown serves as a meeting place for tourists by day and a party destination for business professionals and groups of young locals and university students by night who pack the venues on weekends to flirt and pound pints.
Barhoppers can keep the party going several blocks over on Union Street, where America’s oldest bar – The Bell in Hand Tavern, in operation since 1795 – is surrounded by even more pubs, bars, and dance clubs.
