Party Earth The Beehive Review

The Scene

An upscale bohemian bar and eatery featuring live jazz, The Beehive is a South End staple popular with music lovers, young professionals, and artistic types looking for sophisticated fun.

An upscale bohemian bar and eatery featuring live jazz, The Beehive is a South End staple popular with music lovers, young professionals, and artistic types looking for sophisticated fun.

Located in the Boston Center for the Arts building, the split-level venue boasts a shabby chic décor featuring distressed white brick walls, exposed pipes, ornate chandeliers, and oil paintings by local artists that combine to create an elegant yet urban atmosphere.

Although the mellow weekend jazz brunch draws a sizable crowd, the bar is at its best at night when lively patrons flock in for the hopping night scene.

A smaller upstairs room with an elegant bar provides a place for groups of women and artsy guys to mingle over creative cocktails before gliding down the sweeping staircase to the larger space below, where stylish couples fill the intimate tables along the periphery.

The energy picks up as the night progresses, with animated twenty-somethings buzzing up to the stage to dance to the swinging sounds of the live jazz, blues, and soul bands.

A cool environment with a spirited yet classy atmosphere, The Beehive in Boston creates a sweet as honey mix perfect for dates or a girls’ night out.

Tip from Emma:

The patio opens up when the weather is nice – and since there’s usually no wait to sit there, it can be a great spot for dinner and Strawberry Rhubarb margaritas with the girls before heading inside to dance.

absolutely fantastic.

truly, don't miss this place. funky atmosphere, fantastic food and cocktails, great music, energetic and friendly servers. i've been to the beehive when it's packed and loud and i've been when it's a little more relaxed, and have always had a blast - i even hosted my birthday here one year. one of my favorite places to eat, drink, and hang out in boston.
Can't Be Bee-t

The Beehive earns its name. The crowd in this South End restaurant was packed into the bar, zipping around one another in the latest hipster trends - dark rimmed glasses, shabby-chic dresses, ankle boots, mutton-chops. From the hostess stand at the entrance, I could see a black and white film being screened against the distressed brick wall at the back end of the room at the bottom of the stairs. On the stage in front of the projection, a jazz band was setting up to play. The Beehive looks like it is the remodeled inside of an old T station but there’s a distinctive New Orleans vibe emphasized by the patterned fabric and contemporary art hanging on the walls. The food is rich and the cocktails are smooth. I recommend the lamb couscous and the Valentina cocktail.
Like Honey

In a city known for pubs, sports bars, college parties and the angry drinking that occurs at them, it is nice to have a relaxed place where you can go have a quality cocktail, listen to live jazz and enjoy a conversation that doesn't require shouting over tired radio music or end in a drunken fist fight. The crowd here ranges from young to old, eclectic to cultured to flirty. The food menu is a bit on the pricey end, but for foodies, it has a welcome, seasonal assortment of gourmet comfort food that pairs well with drinks in what is otherwise a desert of fried bar food, pizza and chowdah. It is perfect for a date or for meeting someone who has the potential to go on one. Or you can just go for the music--you would be hard pressed to find better in Boston.
An artsy staple in Boston's South End

Excellent jazz club in Boston's South End. The artsy venue boasts strong musicians, a terrific seasonal menu, and delicious cocktails. (I enjoy the Beehive Julep.) It has plenty of local flavor, with oil paintings done by artists from the area. It can be both relaxing and lively, depending on your mood. You can go for an intimate jazz dinner, an epic dance party, or to sing the blues. In the summertime (or once the weather is nice) there is an outdoor patio where you can check out the lively crowd bustling abut Tremont Street.
Different but great

As soon as you descend on the stairs and enter into the main area of the restaurant, you quickly realize this is not a typical bar/restaurant - in a good way. There is a very relaxing, ethnic vibe to the decor that is accented perfectly with the live music later in the night. It seems the beehive always draws a good, eclectic crowd both for dinner and for drinks. The food, like the place itself, is different - some dishes have a moroccan influence - but good. If you are a person who likes good food, live music and a trendy atmosphere I would strongly recommend making a stop at the Beehive.
