Long lines of eager partiers and a small sign may be the only indications there’s a party going on in Down Ultra Lounge, but the sophisticated singles and fratty hard-bodies making their way down to the subterranean nightclub know they’re in for an energetic and drunken night of nonstop grooving and boozing.
The mass of vibrant dancers forms a colorful collage against the striking white brick room, with occasional revelers using the slender pillars to show off their stripper moves. Dueling DJs show up every night to mix pulsing beats and create an electric atmosphere that keeps the party buzzing.
As the night wears on, chaos reigns as overindulging clubbers turn the LED-lit space into a den of decadence, with steamy make-out sessions, high-octane dance-offs, and queasy patrons making a run for the bathroom providing unexpected entertainment.
Those who can hold their liquor elbow their way to the expansive backlit bar beside the dance floor, while chic locals looking for VIP treatment tend to congregate on the white leather couches for bottle service.
A wild underground dance scene and an animated crowd of fist pumpers and booty shakers makes Down Ultra Lounge a must for connoisseurs of gelled hair, hot beats, and getting one’s freak on till last call.
Trendy college students, young professionals, singles, finance types, and birthday groups, early to late 20s.
DJs battle Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, mixing old school hip-hop, R&B, techno, and Top 40. Occasional seasonal events including Halloween and New Year’s Eve parties.
VIP bottle service. Coat check available in the winter.
Cover charge $10. Beer $5–$9, cocktails $5–$12, wine $5–$9, bottle service $150+/champagne and $250+/liquor, two bottle minimum. Coat check $3.
Club wear: button-downs, slacks, and nice shoes for men, tight dresses and sexy tops for women.
Friday and Saturday nights for a packed scene, though a lengthy line begins to form around 9:45pm.
Howl at the Moon, located right above Down Ultra Lounge, offers the same lively atmosphere but with dueling pianos instead of DJs.
