Dick's Beantown Comedy Vault Information

With shows seven nights a week, cheap drinks, an intimate space, and a charismatic owner, Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault has the recipe for a great comedy club down pat. Dick Doherty founded the venue in the mid-80s, choosing an old bank building as the location – alluded to by the “vault” in the title.

Comedy shows at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault are emceed by rotating regular hosts, with Dick himself occasionally joining the night’s lineup in the basement room. Featured comedians at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault are often local or beginning comics, and even audience members are invited to take a crack at telling jokes during open mic nights.

Former comedians that have graduated from the small spotlight at Dick’s to bigger stages include Dane Cook and Greg Fitzsimmons. Smaller than other comedy clubs in the city at a 75-seat capacity, it’s easy for shows to sell out, especially on the weekends, so it’s advisable to arrive and purchase tickets early. The majority of giddy show-goers take the T to the Green Line Boylston stop, or walk the few blocks the Orange and Red Line Downtown Crossing Station – driving is not advisable in congested downtown.

While not the most refined comedy club in the city, Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault certainly has the most heart.
