Fenway / Kenmore, Boston –
So close to Fenway that cheers echo on its outdoor patio, Cask’n Flagon leads a double life as rowdy sports bar for red- and blue-clad regulars on game nights and sloshy dance club on weekends.
For those not lucky enough to score tickets, the venue features an impressive number of flat-screen TVs over the bar and sprinkled throughout the space, making Cask the next best place for excitable fans to cheer on every swing.
A veritable shrine to the Red Sox – from the black-and-white photos of greats like Ted Williams and Babe Ruth to menu items like the Ty Cobb salad and the Papelbomb – the bar transforms itself on weekends when it switches focus to a whole different sort of American pastime, namely dancing with well-dressed jocks and cute co-eds.
A huge dance floor and live music area – christened Oliver’s after its 1970s namesake that hosted the likes of Hendrix, Springsteen, and Aerosmith – accommodate the boozy crowd of flirty college kids who flock in to dance to the DJ’s mix of Top 40 tunes.
Raucous and upbeat, Cask’n Flagon creates a fun-loving atmosphere that keeps its enthusiastic patrons coming back for more.
Red Sox fans, sports enthusiasts, preppy college students, and young professionals, mostly early to late 20s with scattered 30s and 40s.
Dozens of flat-screen TVs tuned to Boston sports. Non-game days feature Stump! Trivia on Wednesdays, live bands playing alternative, rock, funk, and pop on Thursdays at Oliver’s, and the After-Work Party on Fridays 5–8pm featuring a free appetizer buffet.
DJs spin Top 40 at Oliver’s every Saturday. Free Wi-Fi.
Bar menu including burgers, wraps, and steaks, served for lunch and dinner.
Appetizers $8–$14, salads, soups, and sandwiches $3–$15, pizza $9–$13, entrées $16–$18. Beer $4.75+, wine $6, cocktails $7.
Anything goes: jeans and Red Sox jerseys during the week to dresses and button-downs on weekends.
Any time the Red Sox are in town, or Fridays and Saturdays at Oliver’s @ The Cask for the dance party.
Boston Beer Works (61 Brookline Avenue) is diagonal from Cask’n Flagon and has the same type of atmosphere, but with its own in-house brewery.
