Allston / Brighton, Boston –
Sports fans looking for rowdy camaraderie will find a congenial and boisterous crowd at the Brighton Beer Garden, a typical sports bar complete with an impressive array of big screen televisions that provide every patron with a perfect view of the game.
The frat party experience begins once guests walk through the large oak doors and into the massive rectangular room decked out with the requisite memorabilia from Boston’s four professional sports teams.
During big games, groups of excited sports fans and students from nearby Boston University and Boston College gather to grab a few beers and cheer on their team, while pool tables, trivia contests, and all-you-can-eat wing specials keep the mood upbeat and casual on other nights and pull in a youthful, energetic crowd looking to drink and hook up.
On weekends, the venue’s downstairs club – free of cover charges and velvet ropes – comes alive when a slightly preppy crowd of students and young professionals follows the sound of pounding bass into a more intimate space.
While a few red leather booths tucked into the corners provide a place for patrons to slip away for one-on-one conversations, the DJs pumping out Top 40, club, and rap music draw most of the bumping and grinding singles on to the dance floor.
Generally packed every night of the week, Brighton Beer Garden offers just the right mix of sports, beer, and clubbing to create an all-out party vibe that’s a sure bet for the meet-and-mingle set.
College students and young professionals, mostly 20s to 30s.
50 Cent Wing Night on Mondays, Tuesdays for gourmet pizza night, Stump! Trivia on Wednesdays at 8pm, Thursdays feature a magician from 8–10pm and acoustic guitar 9:30pm–close, live bands on Friday playing mostly rock, DJs in the downstairs space on Saturday nights spin everything from Usher to Daft Punk at 9pm, Sundays karaoke 9pm–close.
Pool tables and free Wi-Fi available. 40 HD TVs playing sports.
American bar food including burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizza, and steaks.
Appetizers $8–$14, soups/salads $4–$17, sandwiches $8–$17, entrées $15–$21. Beer $4–$8, wine $6–$8/glass or $22–$80/bottle, cocktails $7–$11. Pool tables $2/game or $5/half hour.
Very casual upstairs. Slightly dressier downstairs: no ripped jeans, sneakers, sandals, or tank tops. Men in button-downs and jeans or dress pants, women in dresses, skirts, or jeans and heels.
Any time for a big game or Friday and Saturday nights for the crowded downstairs dance scene.
The Green Briar Pub (304 Washington Street) is another close spot with trivia nights and DJs on the weekends and getting the same college crowds.
