Party Earth Review Patrons looking for a bit of classy southern charm amid Allston’s sloshy frat bars can head to Deep Ellum, a Texas-themed venue with an impressive selection of exotic microbrews and bar food. Named for an influential Texan arts district, the bar handles the southwestern theme with a light touch, giving a cowboy hat nod ... more

Party Earth Review A time-honored hangout and live venue for Beantown’s rocker community since it opened in the mid-1970s, the 1000-capacity Paradise Rock Club and Lounge has developed a reputation as a tastemaker on the Boston music scene, hosting over the years such performers as The Black Crowes, Tom Waits, Wilco, and The Hold Steady ... more

Party Earth Review Partiers looking for more than just a bar in the Allston area should head to Wonder Bar, a versatile venue that combines cool hangout with a rowdy club experience. Party Earth Review With its inflation-resistant beer prices, delightfully tacky décor, and homey low-key interior, it’s easy to see why the Silhouette Cocktail Lounge has become an Allston institution where college students, blue-collar workers, and local hipsters can mix freely in an unpretentious, come-as-you-are environment. A bit rough ... more

Party Earth Review Student-friendly Allston may be packed with all-too-similar “bar and grill” venues, but Common Ground stands out from the herd with its unique and extensive beer list, solid food, convivial neighborhood bar vibe, and a slightly older and more upscale clientele. The crisp cream-colored walls and dark wood trim, combined ... more

Party Earth Review It may be hard to believe an old slammer for drunks could attract Boston's crème de la crème, but Alibi, located on the first floor of the recently converted Liberty Hotel, does exactly that. Once filled with public drunks as the Charles Street Jail, Alibi now caters to the city’s upper crust, from politicians like John ... more

Party Earth Review Named after America’s literary “laureate of the lowlife,” Bukowski Tavern is a great combination of sloshy dive bar and beer aficionado’s paradise that attracts students, hipsters, and blue-collar types alike. Dimly lit and featuring the requisite details of any good dive – namely, walls lined in beer bottles, blaring rock ... more

Party Earth Review There's no shortage of entertainment at Kings, a 24,000-square-foot facility filled with bowling, billiards, and brews. Chatty couples on first dates and business types bowling in suits dominate the early hours, replaced by louder groups of carefree students and young professionals later in the evening. Party Earth Review Despite its upscale Charles Street address, Beacon Hill Pub goes for the dive bar vibe, stoking its gregarious, fratty atmosphere by offering some of the cheapest pints in Beantown. Bostonians are passionate about their beer and their nightlife, and when it comes to bars in Boston, nowhere is that passion more on display than in the wide array of Irish joints and sports bars that are filled with young professionals and neighborhood regulars who get together to pound pints of Sam Adams and specialty micro brews, and talk Pats, the Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.
Boston is decidedly a sports town, and the countless sports bars that line the streets of Fenway and basically every other neighborhood in the city are a testament to the denizen’s love for their local teams.
Meanwhile, the more than 50 colleges and universities in the area means that hordes of thirsty students from Boston College, MIT, Boston University, and Harvard pack the bars during the week to play trivia and sing karaoke, and then again on busy weekends to flirt and dance in the bars around Faneuil Hall and Allston.
Fortunately for Bostonians, the T (subway) runs until 1am and covers a good part of the city, so inebriated partiers always have a ride back to their neighborhoods.
While beer bars, sports bars, and dives may reign supreme, patrons looking for a classier and higher-end experience with a more exclusive vibe will still find scattered Boston bars including chic hotel haunts and hangouts in Downtown, the Leather District, or Back Bay – but high-end venues, velvet ropes, and long lines are definitely not what defines this beer-guzzling, bar-loving town.
