Carnival of Cultures Description

Carnival of Cultures - Cultural Festival | Fair / Carnival | Festival | Parade in Berlin.

For four days in May, Germans and international visitors of all backgrounds flock to the streets of Berlin’s biggest melting pot neighborhood, Kreuzberg, for the extravagant Carnival of Cultures.

Boasting over 5,000 performers and over 1 million visitors, the Carnival of Cultures is the perfect example of Berlin’s diverse population. The Carnival of Cultures unites amateur and professional artists, showcases authentic costumes representing countless cultures, and rolls out elaborately decorated floats for its parade that starts and Hermannplatz and ends at Yorckstraße/Möckernstraße on Sunday each year.

The Carnival of Cultures hosts musicians from over 70 countries including (but not limited to) Russia, Greece, Egypt, Venezuela, Poland, Japan, Scotland, Mexico, and Sri Lanka. Most of the of the music is played as part of the Street Festival, which takes place around Bluecherplatz and houses several stages, food and drink pavilions, and an arts and crafts market complete with products from around the world.

Admission to the Carnival of Cultures is free. Prices for food, drink, and knickknacks at various booths vary. On its longest running days – usually Saturday and Sunday – the Carnival of Cultures typically goes from about 11am until midnight.
