Once past the walls hung with license plates, photos, and quotations extolling the virtues of beer, patrons will most likely be handed a menu that scolds diners to please “eat the damn burger with your hands.”

The venue’s wry attempt at being curmudgeonly, however, is undermined by the attentive and chatty staff who engage customers in conversation and often referee debates over music, politics, and, of course, the best way to order a steak.

(medium rare appears to be the correct answer).

Visitors and regulars happily rub elbows here – indeed, most of the bartenders and wait staff are expats – and English is as likely to be heard as German.

The burgers themselves, served with hand-cut fries, are a local legend and come with a variety of unique and savory toppings. For the brave at heart, meanwhile, The Bird’s “napalm wings” provide the kind of eye-watering spiciness the New York-born proprietors felt was lacking in most German cuisine.

Sorry Germany. New Yorkers call it like they see it.

A very good burger joint in Berlin.

The Bird is a cool New York's style bar and steakhouse in Berlin. Is located in the beautiful Prenzlauer Berg, just behind Mauerpark. They offer great burgers, steaks, the fantastic club sandwich (my favorite), homemade fries, among others. Also, available in the menu are wings, but please be really careful with the napalm ones. Seriously hot! Additionally, they have an amazing happy hour on beer that goes from 6pm to 8pm. The staff is super helpful and kind, specially Donald. The only disadvantage is that during peak times you will wait 45 minutes for your meal.
Best burgers in EUROPE. Seriously.

The Bird is the best place for burgers in Europe. Seriously. I love EVERYTHING about this place. First the happy hours on beer are great. Second the burgers are amazing and they focus on what's important, the meat. Third the style of burgers are a perfect flavor and combo, which is impossible to find in Europe. Fourth they have all the right condiments for free and lots of it. Fifth the owner John and his crazy dog, plus Awesome Donald and Rach, and the whole staff in general are rockin people. I literally went there everyday last time I was there, even at noon -- which meant I had their griddle style cheese burger for breakfast!
