A traditional Irish pub – and the first to open in Mitte – Oscar Wilde Irish Pub has become quite popular with an English-speaking clientele in search of pints of Newcastle, Guinness, and other English and Irish beers that can be hard to find in Berlin, not to mention the full menu of hearty Irish dishes like shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash.

Those in the mood for a low-key evening can sink into the deep leather couches in the more refined front room, which is also equipped with a dark oak bar, dart boards, and scattered tables that frequently play host to chill local gatherings.

More gregarious types, however, can congregate in the smoky back room. A little rougher around the edges, it features a poster-covered ceiling and long wooden tables where patrons yell out quiz answers on Thursdays, belt out power ballads or sing along to musicians on rotating karaoke and live music nights on Fridays, or get their dance on during DJ-driven Saturdays.

And, of course, if the game is on – be it football, rugby, or Gaelic matches – guests can be assured to find it on the large projection screen.

Whichever scene patrons choose, Oscar Wilde Irish Pub is a not-so-wee bit of Ireland in the heart of Berlin.
