Zitadelle Spandau Information

The Zitadelle (Citadel), built in the mid-sixteenth century, is one of the best-preserved Renaissance military structures in Europe and played a major role in the Thirty Years War, The Napoleonic Wars, and in World War II as part of Berlin’s defense against allied attacks in the Battle of Berlin. Today, Zitadelle Spandau is a museum, tourist destination, and concert venue.

Performances at Zitadelle Spandau have included The Cranberries, Morrissey, Robert Plant, Patti Smith, and The Pogues. Music festivals at the Zitadelle include the internationally acclaimed Citadel Music Festival, which takes place in the summer.

Concerts at the Zitadelle Spandau take place in the center courtyard, which has a capacity for 3,000 people.
