Fasching in Berlin Description

Fasching in Berlin - Costume Party | Festival | Parade in Berlin.

Catholics and revelers around the world celebrate Mardi Gras in February with massive carnivals, traditional parades, and all-night parties. Over in Germany, Berlin’s take on Mardi Gras is Fasching. Fasching in Berlin stretches back hundreds of years and takes place from the beginning of January until Shrove Tuesday (the day before Lent begins) in February.

The kickoff of Fasching in Berlin is the annual parade. The route stretches along Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, winding through the city on Tauentzienstraße before ending at Wittenbergplatz. By the end of Fasching, the parties get wilder with plenty of masquerades and carnivalesque revelry in the city center.

At restaurants throughout the city, foodies can sample traditional Lenten foods like Fasching doughnuts before letting loose at debaucherous masked balls.

Most of the Fasching celebrations in Berlin are free, though some balls and parties require reservations. Tickets to those events range from around €5 to €40 per person.
