European Month of Photography Berlin 2012 Description

The European Month of Photography is a photography festival that occurs every two years in November. Berlin is one of seven major world cities that participate in the festival. Since its beginning in 1980, the European Month of Photography has featured discounted exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout Berlin like the Deutsche Guggenheim and the Museum für Fotografie.

The European Month of Photography in Berlin is the largest photography festival in Germany and revolves around a new theme each year. Past themes have included “Can Fiction Beat Reality?” and “The View of the Other”. Every year, the festival features works by 500 photographers at 100 locations throughout the city. Featured artists at the European Month of Photography in Berlin have included Dennis Hopper, Laura Mars, Joel Sternfeld, and Jerry Berndt.

Aside from the exhibitions showcased during the European Month of Photography, the festival offers lectures, debates, and discussions in hopes of building an exchange of artistic talent and innovation in the field of photography. Today the European Month of Photography in Berlin is one of the richest and most extensive citywide manifestations of photography in the world.
