Every October, Berlin is set aglow with electric lights, projections, and fireworks. Since 2004, the Berlin Festival of Lights, or Lichterfest, has attracted visitors from all over the world as the city’s public spaces become beautifully lit up for two weeks. Popular illuminated landmarks include the Brandenburg Gate, the Victory Column, and the Berlin Cathedral.
The 2012 Berlin Festival of Lights begins with the opening celebration at Potsdam Festival Center. Local bars and museums take part in the festivities with special events and activities, including a museum open house called “Night of Open Doors” and a 7.5 kilometer “Light Run” along Berlin’s most popular buildings.
After watching the fireworks and taking in the 2012 Berlin Festival of Lights, celebrate at the popular bars that overlook the illuminated Oberbaumbrücke. There’s no better place to watch the city’s lights dancing on the Spree River than at a nearby bar with a drink in hand.
