Party Earth Cassiopeia Review

The Scene

It may look like a hole in the wall from the outside, but inside, Cassiopeia has transformed a former factory into a stylish, alternative club complex that retains the old industrial rusticity of East Berlin.

It may look like a hole in the wall from the outside, but inside, Cassiopeia has transformed a former factory into a stylish, alternative club complex that retains the old industrial rusticity of East Berlin.

The cavernous structure, located past the front gate and on the left side of the courtyard, houses dance floors on two levels where DJs play different music styles that vary with the night.

Although the popular club attracts a large alternative crowd on its own, Cassiopeia’s true distinction is that it also offers day and evening activities like rock climbing, skateboarding, dining, and outdoor movie screenings.

Besides the impressive climbing wall and the skate park with its half-pipe, Cassiopeia has also taken advantage of the open courtyard to set up a beer garden in the shade of the leafy trees. In warm weather, droves of bohemian types gather there to share a beer and conversation or, after sunset, to catch an independent film at the Freiluft Kino (outdoor theater).

Cassiopeia offers a lot of easygoing fun as a club, but as a day/night entertainment complex, it is truly exceptional.

Perfect hangout spot for the whole day and night. RAW Tempel is another, more alternative club in the same complex, so be sure to check it out at www.raw-tempel.de. By the way, the skateboard half-pipe is the biggest in Germany!

If you're really bored and in the area...

When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the stench of what seemed like body odor and puke. Luckily, the second floor was a lot more sweet smelling! I made a bee line for the dance floor to show some of my moves but I found it difficult to get into a groove. I don't know if it was just the night that I decided to go but, the music was pretty horrible. It was as if they asked someone to put together a playlist of the worst 90's and R & B jams! Admittedly, I only went to Cassiopeia because one of the friend's that I was with was too drunk to get into Watergate so this may have influenced my lower score of the club.
Awesome, dark, dingy and effortlessly cool

Ok, so I was a little sceptical about this 'cool hip-hop' place in Berlin. I expected Kriss Kross style back to front jeans, and wall to wall Obey hats.... I was wrong. I went to an open mic night with some pretty good German MCs, at times I felt like an extra in the film 8 mile, it was raw, cool and definitely had a different edge to anywhere else I had been in Berlin. The small room where the party starts leads into a dance floor area where you can grind the night away to classic hip-hop tunes (no cheese attached) The staff were friendly and even gave out cute little badges each time you went to the bar. I will be going back to this hidden gem of a place for some more raw talent spotting and booty shaking....
Cool outdoor check out

This spot is really one only the locals know about, but it's a HUGE area with tons of things to do. When I went a major skate comp with Tony Hawk and friends had just rolled through their massive and impressive indoor skate park. The climbing area is small, and the people are snobby pros, but if you love the sport I'm sure they'd accept you. We came back at night for their club and the vibe was young student, but the music was alternative and drink were cheap. Loved it.
