Party Earth Café Morgenrot Review

The Scene

Because it would not be fair for one man – the owner/capitalist – to profit from the labor of the workers/proletariat, no one actually owns Café Morgenrot.

Because it would not be fair for one man – the owner/capitalist – to profit from the labor of the workers/proletariat, no one actually owns Café Morgenrot. Instead, everyone who works at the bar takes equal responsibility and earns the same amount of money.

But patrons shouldn’t pay much attention to that big red flag going up in their minds – most of the people at this bar are friendly and approachable and like nothing better than to pass the hours talking about the state of the world over inexpensive beer and cocktails and maybe play a little chess on a board that’s invariably missing a few pieces.

Those who prefer more solitary pursuits can spend some time flipping through the political literature, newspapers, and brochures provided in the free reading room.

Although the service may be slow and the staff indifferent, the venue does take an active role in the community, so guests should check out their fliers to see what events are going on in the area.

The bar’s calm, laid-back scene also attracts a crowd for brunch (Fridays–Sundays until 3pm), with lots of vegetarian-friendly specialties perfect for overcoming Friday night’s hangover.

And, in accordance with Café Morgenrot’s ideology, the price of brunch is decided on collectively by the people.

Amazing vegan/vegetarian brunch at "name your own price"!

Yes, you read right! This cafe collective offers weekend-brunch calculated on a sliding scale from 4 to 14 Euros, asking people to pay what they can and feel comfortable with. Great idea if you ask me. Try this alternative place in one of Berlin's most up and coming hip areas. Take you veg and non-veg friends there for brunch and I guarantee that everyone will leave full and impressed. It is, however, a rather generic style brunch, so if you are in the mood for a fancier type brunch/food, you should look elsewhere. Also, this place gets packed rather quickly, so make sure you get there at or around 11am. Cafe Morgenroth is left-winged and also organizes various other left activities like concerts and movie nights. So do yourself a favor and come back for one of their many events as well. You will not be disappointed!
