Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin –
While many bars in Berlin throw together a few mismatched armchairs and coffee tables and call themselves a lounge, few do it with as much class as Scotch & Sofa. This stylish cocktail bar manages to pull off a retro 50s-era living room vibe without seeming too kitschy.
The décor of tasteful wallpaper set off by dark mahogany accents and plush leather couches fits together perfectly to provide a taste of luxury without sacrificing comfort.
Young professionals stream in during Happy Hour to enjoy the impressive selection of scotches and whiskeys and the extensive menu of cocktails, while more casual groups nab the sofas later in the evening, enjoying conversation set to a background of old familiar tunes. Solo visitors might opt to sit at the bar, where they’ll get advanced courses in cocktail mixing from the knowledgeable bartenders.
Divided into two levels (smoking downstairs, non-smoking upstairs), and with additional outdoor seating at the small patio out front, Scotch & Sofa is a sophisticated place to linger over luxurious cocktails before a night out or to grab a nightcap before turning in.
International business people and young professionals, mid-20s and up.
Oldies, Motown, and soul including a 50s doo-wop playlist.
