Palau de la Musica Catalana Information

Palau de la Musica Catalana is a beautiful concert hall located at Carrer Sant Francesc de Paula, 2, in Barcelona, Spain's Ribera neighborhood. The hall was designed in Catalunya's unique “moderinsme” style by architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. It was built between 1905 and 1908 as part of the “Renaixença”, or Catalan Rebirth. The Palau de la Musica Catalana won an architectural award just one year after its inauguration and, in 1997, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building boasts the world's first example of curtain wall structures and also contains many other architectural treasures such as its stained glass skylight. The theater seats 2,200 visitors and is the only theater in Europe that is illuminated completely by natural light during the day.

Concerts at Palau de la Musica Catalana are still very popular as more than one million people per year attend symphonic, chamber music, and jazz performances. Cançó (Catalan music) events at Palau de la Musica Catalana are very unique to this venue. Past musicians at Palau de la Musica Catalana include some of the world's best soloists, singers, and performers including Julian Lloyd Webber, Albert Schweitzer, Maurizio Pollini, and Ella Fitzgerald. Other notable performers at Palau de la Musica Catalana include Woody Allen, Duke Ellington, and Norah Jones.
