Something of a clubber’s club, Sala BeCool is a mid-sized, bare-bones venue inconveniently located a long walk from the nearest metro station.
Despite that small drawback, however, a trip to the club is well worth the effort for dance music lovers who enjoy expertly mixed electronic music of the house/tech/minimal variety.
Other than the bar and DJ booth in the downstairs area, the entire open-plan space is given over to dancing, and even the solitary black sofa near the entrance is rarely used, more evidence that the crowd hasn't come to rest up.
Instead, the friendly bunch of trendily-attired clubbers nod, shimmy, tap, and pump their fists as the disco lights revolve and the respected (but rarely famous) DJs take them on a musical journey.
A similar vibe presides upstairs, where there is also precious little in the way of seating but lots of room for the casually-dressed and uninhibited patrons to show off their moves to whatever the DJ blasts out of the impressive sound system, whether it be Alice in Chains or Prince’s Purple Rain.
As the name implies, Sala BeCool is cool yet unpretentious and offers a welcome combination of diverse music, fun-loving atmosphere, and approachable patrons that can be hard to find elsewhere in Barcelona.
The club requires some effort to get to – it’s a good twenty-minute walk from the nearest metro station – so it may be best to grab a taxi. The website occasionally posts special invitations that waive the cover charge, so it’s always worth the time to check that out before a trip to BeCool.
