Lost in the back streets of Barcelona’s labyrinthine Barri Gòtic, Harlem Jazz Club’s hard-to-find location doesn’t deter the loyal crowd of music lovers, local and international, who descend on the venue six nights a week.

The mid-sized space fits the bill perfectly, with a small front bar area offering refreshment and conversation and a stage in back surrounded by tables and plenty of standing room for the appreciative crowds.

Live music comes in the form not only of jazz and blues, but also funk, soul, flamenco, gypsy music, and folk. Whatever the genre, the musicians always deliver high-quality, virtuoso performances that never fail to delight the cultured yet fun-loving patrons who don’t need much encouragement to start whooping, clapping along, or shaking their hips if the rhythm takes them.

The club creates a suitably intimate underground vibe with minimal stage lighting and dim lamps glowing orange over the bar, while ceiling fans work furiously to dispel the ubiquitous cloud of smoke one might expect in a jazz club.

Of course the emphasis any night at Harlem Jazz is on the live bands, but on weekends, those good vibrations don’t die out after the show as salsa music takes over and a Latin party gets going full swing.

A Legendary Jazz Club of Barcelona
Nathalie H. Mar 4, 2013
The Barri Gotic has many golden places to visit, and the Harlem Jazz Club is definitely one of them. Found in a multitude of guide books and recommended by many, even if you don't think you like jazz, you will have one heck of a night here. With real Spanish atmosphere and fantastic music, it offers live bands, local talent, and a smokey but cozy ambiance. If you are tired of the techno music and sweaty clubs, this is a place to see. It gives you a truly authentic feeling with low entrance fees and fantastic musicians, starting at 10 pm. It has quite the mixed crowd, with friendly bartenders and an entirely bohemian feel. This is a great break from the normal bars, and promises satisfaction. Come with friends for a low-key evening, but be prepared to pay more than you usually do for drinks. This is a place where your dance moves may actually be judged much more than any typical club of Barcelona. Break out your hat, suspenders and oxfords, and pretend you're back in the 40's with a rum and coke and a beautiful lady by your side.

Hot stuff Harlem!
Ernst B. Nov 20, 2012
This place it some hot shizz at the moment. It fell into my lap by chance and boy was I glad for the surprise! Buried in the heart of Barrio Gotic means that it is not that easy to find, but well worth the effort once you’re done getting lost! For a minute there I thought I was in New York in the 40’s, dancing and grooving to some old school swing-jazz, sometimes getting a little bit more excited than the band on stage (who had some swinging moves of their own!). Whether you like dancing or not, make sure to wear some comfy shoes because you won’t be able to contain yourself once the Harlem heat hits your hips.
