Party Earth Lletraferit Review

The Scene

Lletraferit in Barcelona’s El Raval is all about coffee, books, art, & cocktails. Catch a show, read a book, & chat over drinks in Barcelona with Party Earth.

Coffee, tea, books, and art are the core ingredients at Lletraferit, all folded inside a spoken-word burrito and topped off with a hearty dollop of cocktails.

The front room offers a great view onto the narrow but always bustling Joaquín Costa Street, at the same time shielding patrons from city noise, making it an ideal hangout for anyone recovering from last night’s long outing in El Raval.

Mugs of caffeine in hand, students take to the stools by the windows for an afternoon study session, or gather around the small tables to snack on tapas and check out the latest rotating art display.

Further back, a big round table separates shelves of new and used books, all of which can be bought on the cheap or freely read long into the evening by avid bookworms.

A come one, come all vibe permeates the venue, evidenced by the second room, which hosts regular expositions, small concerts, and groups of artists, musicians, and prosey prognosticators, who sip old-school and classic Spanish cocktails before checking out the evening’s performance.

Even with a show in back, mellow conversation is always king at Lletraferit, making it the perfect place to talk, watch, or just quietly read in a corner.

Perfect cocktail bar
Patricia P. Jun 27, 2013
I lived in Barcelona for a while and I went to this cocktail bar several times. Perfect for those who want to enjoy a good cocktail in a relaxing environment and also perfect for those who want to start their night out in “El Raval”. But you can also go there just for a coffee during the afternoon. That’s the charming thing of Lletraferit, it fits to everybody. The environment is really cozy, with sofas, candles, low lights and good music. Lletraferit also has another particular concept: the bar is full of shelves with books brought by people. You can read those books in the bar or just buy them. It is some kind of second hand book market too, and you can find books in Spanish, Catalan, English, French and even German. And of course, the cocktails are also amazing. Compulsory to try, at least once (but I’m sure that if you like sweet cocktails you will repeat) the classic “Lletraferit cocktail”, with Catalan cava and strawberry. Impossible to drink only one! The prices are also really good. Between 8 and 10 euros de cocktail, depending on what type of alcohol you want to drink. But you can also have a glass of good Catalan wine just for 2 – 3 euros or a beer for 3-4 euros (ask for Moritz, the typical Catalan beer, manufactured there in Barcelona). Coffees, tee or other refreshing drinks are around 1-2 euros. Talking about “El Raval”, I need to say that it is an amazing neighborhood. It has life 24 hours on. You can find also the contemporary museum MACBA, and there, one of the favorite places for all the Barcelona’s skaters, the big Plaça dels Àngels (Angel’s square), just in front of the museum. For living “El Raval” the best way is to walk around its streets, trying to get lost, and finding new and amazing places.
