One of Raval’s most authentic pre-club bars, Zentraus is a hip joint that draws a large crowd of music lovers looking for an underground vibe.
The black-tiled, somewhat industrial motif plunges patrons into near-total darkness, broken only by faint red lights shooting down vertically from the ceiling and a luminescent bar. The minimalist décor extends to a black-and-white seating area and bare walls used as screens for the ever-changing projected visuals.
Although DJs lay down thumping bass lines and spin some energetic techno, the atmosphere tends to remain relatively low key, and the effortlessly cool customers are content to tap their feet as they catch up with friends over cocktails.
For a neighborhood activity during the day, it’s well worth popping down to Zentraus for some tasty local and Italian cuisine served outside on the Rambla del Raval.
The techno can get pretty hardcore, but the drum and bass is always great. There’s no cover charge, though, so Zentraus is a good stop any night on your way to other venues. And keep in mind that the kitchen stays open later than most places, so if you want something other than a late-night kebab, you’ll find it here.
Hip local music junkies, early 20s to 30s.
