Barri Gòtic, Barcelona –
The candlelit chandelier, carved wooden chairs, and scattered ottomans create an intimate atmosphere for mingling, but it’s the impressive tapestry of a ferocious jaguar in the rainforest that first hints at Q Bar’s Peruvian theme.
This diminutive bar and restaurant offers authentic South American cuisine, including the house specialty of ceviche (fish marinated in citrus sauce), as well as an extensive cocktail menu featuring specials guaranteed to please – among them a superb piña colada and exotic homemade shots.
The somewhat artsy clientele leans toward quiet conversation in the shadowy recesses in the back, though a livelier crowd can usually be found chatting around the bar in the front.
With its great location in the Barri Gòtic, Q Bar is hidden enough to be a bit of a secret but easy enough to find with the proper set of directions.
A laid-back international clientele, early 20s to 30s.
Easy beats for early evening, but more upbeat and energizing as the night progresses. Live broadcasts of FC Barcelona football matches.
Tapas, salads, sandwiches, and entrées, as well as a rotating menu del dia. Lunch only, until 4pm.
Menu del dia €9.75. Beer €3, cocktails €3+, homemade shots €1.
Anything goes.
Busiest Fridays and Saturdays around 9pm or any time there’s an FC Barcelona match.
